How to Make Your Blow-Dry Last (Stylist Secrets)
By The Snip & Style Styling Team
There’s nothing like leaving the salon with a glossy, bouncy blow-dry — and nothing more frustrating than watching it fall flat by morning. The good news: longevity is mostly technique and care. Here are the secrets our stylists actually use.
It starts in the chair
A lasting blow-dry begins with a proper wash and a thorough rough-dry — styling damp-but-not-wet hair sets the shape far better than working on soaking hair. We section, use the right brush tension, and finish each section with a blast of cool air to lock the cuticle and set the curl.
The products that earn their place
A lightweight heat protectant and a volumising mousse or root spray give grip and body without weighing hair down. A few drops of serum on mid-lengths and ends add the glossy finish — applied sparingly, never at the roots.
Protect it overnight
Sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase to cut friction and frizz, and loosely pin longer hair into a high, soft bun (a “pineapple”) to preserve volume. Keep heated tools and humidity to a minimum the first day while the style settles.
Refresh, don’t rewash
Stretch your blow-dry by skipping daily washing — a little dry shampoo at the roots absorbs oil and revives lift on day two and three. A quick touch-up with a round brush or a few large rollers brings back the bounce without starting over.
